Down at the Cabbage Patch the races are now flying by, with the season now nearly 80% over. Our next race was from Blandford & in the Old Bird Race Billy Watkins took a 1,2,3 with a Red Chequer Van Reet Cock bred by Steve Holloway, a Dark Chequer Southwell Cock bred by Tony Cripps & a Blue Jos Thorne Cock. Fourth Club was Steve Holloway with a Grizzle Cock with bloodlines of the Dunstable Ace Peter Wells.
In the Young bird race 5 Members sent 108 Birds which were liberated at 6.45 in a North West Wind. Taking the First 3 Positions is Club Secretary Steve Sheffield with a Blue Busschaert x Soontjen Cock, a Blue Pied Cock & a Blue Hen both Busschaerts. In 4th,5th, & 6th Spot was Doru Burlacu with a Blue Cock with Brian Long Bloodlines, a Blue Vandenabeele Cock containing the Turbo Bloodlines & a Blue Coen Van Roy Cock.
Our next race was due to be from Honiton, but due to the weather forecast it was put back 24 hours to Mark Saturday for a Sunday race, But 24 hours later the race was completely cancelled which turned out to be a good thing, as the few organisations that did send had a bad race with a lot missing on the night, which they have hopefully now got them all home. On this weekend the BICC raced from Coutances and Doru Burlacu did exceptionally well getting 5 out of his 6 entries and ended up being Provisionally 67th Open Young Bird National while some others did not do so well.
The following weekend we were due to go to Honiton again, but once again the race was put back 24 hours due to the change in the forecast. On the Saturday evening we marked and at the end of Marking 7 Members had sent 113 Birds. On the Sunday morning I received the phone call from Dave Housden saying that the birds had been liberated at 10am in a South West Wind, but they had been moved to Blandford.
Our winner for this race was Paul Stone with a Chequer Pied Tist Eyssen x Jan Loots Hen. The Sire being a Jan Loots bred by Dave Murphy who no longer Races. Second Club was Steve Sheffield with a Blue Pied Soontjen x Busschaert Cock. 3rd Club was Steve Sheffield with a Dark Chequer Busschaert Cock. 4th Club was Peter Twyford with a Blue Chequer Soontjen x Busschaert Hen. The Sire is a Winner of 2nd LNRC Hexham for Don Stocking, who in turn is from Peter’s Combine Cock 1st UBI Combine Kingsdown, while the Dam is a Soontjen bred by Geoff Barker who won 2x1st’s as a Young Bird in 2019. 5th Club was Steve Sheffield with a Blue Busschaert Hen. Finally, in 6th place was Peter Twyford with a Red Chequer Busschaert Cock.
The next race for us was once again from Honiton and at the end of marking 6 members had sent 129 birds which were liberated at 8.15 in a North Wind. Taking the first 3 places was Steve Williams with a Dark Pied Van Den Bulck x Janssen Cock, a Blue Van Loon x John Turnell Hen and a Blue Vandenabeele x Supercrack Hen. In 4th Club was Steve Sheffield with a Blue Pied Busschaert x Soontjen Cock who has now scored for a third time after twice winning 2ndClub Blandford. 5th & 6th Club was also Steve Sheffield and these 2 were a Blue Chequer Cock & a Dark Chequer Cock both from Steve’s Busschaert family.
On the same weekend the BBC & BICC were racing and in the BICC Young Bird National Race from Falaise Doru Burlacu was 68th Open Provisionally with a Blue bred by Club Mate Paul Stone. the Sire being a Grandson of “Cora” of Bert Braspenning & the Dam being a Joop Koch x Jan Loots.
In the next write up….
The last races of the season including the UBI Combine race from Carentan.
Until next time
Take Care
